My name is Christopher Cordon and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Auburn University in 2009 and received my Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California in 2016. I grew up in Daphne, AL. I am married and have two wonderful stepchildren.
I have over 10 years of experience in the mental health field, working in various settings, such as the Department of Human Resources (DHR), Baldwin County Public Schools, Alta Pointe and Cullman Primary Care Psychiatry, to name a few. I have vast experience working with diverse populations, various ages and ethnicities. I assist people in therapy through the use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness and Brief Solution Focused Therapy.
I understand that coming to therapy can be intimidating and uncomfortable, however it is also the first step for you to not only feeling better, but to getting better. You have recognized that there is an issue that needs to be addressed and resolved and you need guidance on how to manage your emotions during this difficult time. The good news is that managing your emotions is achievable! However, as with most things in life, that means it will require effort and this is where I come in to help guide you to reaching your goals. During the Intake Assessment, we will discuss the issues you are facing and develop goals that are realistic and achievable. In therapy, we will practice different techniques to help you cope with your emotions and then I will provide you with what I like to call self-enhancing mental health exercises to practice and complete at home.
I am often asked how long therapy will last, and there is no clear answer because it truly depends on the individual's effort and hard work. However, in my experience, the average number of sessions where people noticed significant changes in their mental health has been around 8-12 sessions. It also depends on whether the client is completing the exercises provided in therapy to practice at home. The length of therapy depends on the individual, but the one thing that is absolute is that doing nothing will not change anything. So, if you are ready to begin your journey, please contact me so we can set up an appointment. Thank you for considering ACCS and I look forward to meeting and working with you!
